Third Refit for S/Y Jethou 77: Twin Rudder Upgrade & Composite Enhancements

SR Structures is pleased to be back working on Jethou for the third time, a clear reflection of the trust built through consistent delivery and technical execution across previous refit programmes.

This latest phase focuses on performance refinement and structural preparation for future upgrades, and includes:

  • Conversion to a twin rudder configuration

  • Increased ballast tank capacity

  • Installation of a new mast collar

  • Installation of transom interceptor

  • In-house production and installation of all pre-preg composite components

The centrepiece of this refit is the transition to a twin rudder configuration, a significant performance upgrade for a yacht of this calibre.

Twin rudders

  • Improved control at high heel angles

  • Reduced ventilation risk

  • Greater stability at speed

  • Enhanced handling confidence

The rudders were manufactured in-house at SR Structures HQ using advanced pre-preg carbon construction, strictly in accordance with partnered design and structural engineering specifications.

By controlling internally, we ensured precise adherence to specification, high laminate quality, and repeatable structural performance. Installation and final alignment were completed by the SR build team in La Ciotat, France, maintaining full quality oversight throughout the process.

Increased Ballast Tank Capacity:

In parallel with the rudder conversion, we have completed modifications to increase ballast tank capacity.

Enhanced ballast capability delivers:

  • Greater righting moment

  • Improved trim optimisation

  • Expanded performance envelope

Structural modifications were carefully integrated to maintain hull stiffness continuity and efficient load transfer.

New Composite Mast Collar Installation:

Preparation for Jethous’ new mast has also included the manufacture and installation of a composite mast collar.

Produced in pre-preg carbon at SR HQ, the collar was manufactured to defined engineering requirements and installed by our team to ensure accurate load distribution from the new rig into the deck structure.

Transom Interceptor Installation

As part of the latest performance package, SR Structures has also completed the installation of a new transom interceptor system.

Designed to optimise hydrodynamic efficiency and running attitude, the interceptor enhances:

  • Dynamic trim control

  • Stern lift and reduced drag

  • Improved acceleration and top-end performance

  • Greater efficiency across varying sea states

The installation required precise integration into the transom structure to ensure both structural integrity and accurate system alignment. All composite modifications and installation works were carried out by the SR Build team, maintaining full control over fit, finish, and performance-critical tolerances.

The addition of the interceptor complements the wider performance-focused upgrades undertaken during this refit, contributing to improved handling balance and overall sailing efficiency.

A Continued Refit Programme

This third refit programme for S/Y Jethou 77 reflects SR Structures’ continued involvement in delivering technically demanding composite and structural upgrades across multiple phases of the yacht’s development.

By retaining all pre-preg manufacturing and structural installation in-house, we maintain full control over quality, engineering accuracy, and integration throughout every stage of the project — from component production through to final installation.

We look forward to seeing Jethou return to the water with enhanced performance, improved handling characteristics, and a strong platform for future development.
